Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter, alongside The Villages Charter School, is excited to announce the construction a new home in partnership with Habitat’s Youth Construction Academy.

This will be the second home constructed by The Villages Charter School this academic year. The project is being completed in partnership with house sponsor RoMac Distribution. This home is the second that students from The Villages Chater School will complete construction on as part of their sixth year in the Youth Construction Academy program.  

Habitat Lake-Sumter’s Youth Construction Academy includes four partnering schools in Lake and Sumter Counties: The Villages Charter School, Leesburg High School, South Lake High School, and Eustis High School. Over the course of the 2023-2024 academic year, students from the Youth Construction Academy will construct six homes from start to finish.

Classes of students from The Villages Charter School will spend time during the school week working side by side with Habitat’s construction staff and professional tradesmen on live construction projects, providing hands-on learning at the build site in Wildwood.

Construction will be ongoing during the school year from November through May. In May, the students and teachers will be included in a dedication ceremony where the keys to the house will be handed to a family in need that has completed Habitat’s Home Ownership program. Ultimately, students will graduate the program career-ready and assist in providing five new homeownership opportunities for local families.
