From Homelessness to Hope: A Veterans Story
November is National Veterans and Military Families Month.
In November, we honor the men and women who’ve served our country by giving back to those who need it most. At Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter, we’re proud to support veterans and their families through our Veterans Housing Initiative. This program provides veterans with access to safe, affordable housing and critical home repairs that ensure they have the stability and security they deserve.
Take the story of Mr. Burtt, a disabled, retired Navy veteran from the Lake-Sumter area. After facing homelessness, Mr. Burtt found a $500 mobile home, but it required significant repairs. He reached out to Habitat Lake-Sumter for help, and thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation project. This included new siding, a new hot water heater, and over $17,000 in repairs to finish the interior of his home, turning it into a safe and comfortable space for Mr. Burtt to call home.
Your support of our Veterans Housing Initiative does more than provide housing—it creates lasting change, offering hope and stability to veterans and their families in Lake and Sumter Counties. Together, we’re rebuilding lives and building communities.
