Get Involved This Year: Simple Ways to Make a Difference Close to Home

A new year is here, and it’s a great time to find ways to make a difference in our community.

If giving back or being more active locally is part of your New Year’s resolution, Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter makes it easy to turn that goal into meaningful action. From helping families find safe, affordable housing to supporting programs that strengthen neighborhoods, there are many ways to make a positive impact this year.

Donate

One of the simplest ways to get involved is by supporting Habitat’s mission financially. Every gift helps create safe, affordable housing and critical home repairs for local families.

For those looking to make an ongoing commitment, monthly giving is a powerful way to provide steady support throughout the year and ensure Habitat can respond to community needs as they arise. Interested in giving? Donate online here or contact Kim at kim@habitatls.org for more information.

The new year is also a great time to simplify your space. Donating gently used furniture, appliances, and home goods to the Eustis or Leesburg ReStore supports Habitat’s work while giving items a second life. Proceeds from the ReStores directly fund local housing programs, making decluttering a win for both your home and the community. Ready to schedule your donation pick-up? Call our dispatch center at 352-589-3005.

Volunteer

Another hands-on way to make a difference is by volunteering. From construction sites to our ReStores and behind-the-scenes support, volunteers are essential to everything Habitat Lake-Sumter does. No construction experience is required, just a willingness to learn and lend a hand. Many volunteers find that giving their time also brings new skills, friendships, and a deeper connection to the community. Want to volunteer? Contact Carlos at carlos@habitatls.org for more information.

Advocate

Sharing Habitat’s work is another easy but impactful way to help. Talking with friends, family, or coworkers about affordable housing needs or sharing Habitat Lake-Sumter’s posts online helps spread awareness and connect more people to available resources. Advocacy starts with conversation, and every share helps the mission reach further. Want to stay connected? Be sure to follow us on Facebook.

Looking for something a little bit different?

Looking ahead, opportunities like Women Build offer a powerful way to come together, fundraise, and build alongside other community members who believe everyone deserves a decent place to live. Whether you join as a builder, fundraiser, or supporter, your involvement helps strengthen neighborhoods and create lasting change. Reach out to Hannah at hannah@habitatls.org if you would like to be part of this year’s Women Build.

As the year begins, we hope you will find a way to get involved that feels meaningful to you and know that every step you take helps strengthen our Lake and Sumter community.
