Thankful For New Beginnings: Meet Audrey Richards

What’s new in Audrey Richards’ life? She’s officially a Habitat homeowner, having moved into her new house built in 2024! As we kick off the new year, we’re excited to celebrate Audrey’s fresh start.

After over five years of renting and facing steep rent increases, Audrey decided it was time for a change. Living in Leesburg, she had tried multiple times to buy a home, but things never seemed to work out. Then, a conversation with a coworker about Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter changed everything for her.

When Audrey learned Habitat Lake-Sumter was planning to build homes for people aged 55 and older in our Cottages at Heritage Grove, she felt it was a perfect match. Intrigued, she began researching and applied for a new home.

Audrey has had nothing but positive experiences working with Habitat Lake-Sumter on her homeownership journey. “Whenever I had a question, Veronica, our Programs Director, was always quick to respond. Everyone has been so supportive,” she says.

Audrey looks forward to her own “place to call home” thanks to Habitat Lake-Sumter. Beyond gaining a house, she’s excited about the friendships she’s forming through the sweat equity program. To fulfill her required 200 hours of volunteering, Audrey has been helping out at the local ReStore.

Her children are thrilled about this change in her life. They’ve been helping her rack up those sweat equity hours and are even planning a little housewarming get-together.

Audrey can’t wait to personalize her new space and make it her own. She never imagined she would own a home at this stage in her life and is looking forward to creating a peaceful living environment.

Congratulations to Audrey on this exciting new chapter for her and her family!
