The Lake County Commission approved almost $335,000 in affordable housing investments on Aug. 11, funding new Habitat for Humanity homes in Eustis and Leesburg and expanding assistance for displaced households.
The investments, funded through federal grants, are intended to increase homeownership opportunities for lower-income residents and provide relocation support for homeless families with children. Lake County is administering U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant funding through local nonprofit partners.
Commissioners approved two HUD HOME Investment Partnerships Program agreements with Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter Inc., providing a total of $284,900 to support construction of as many as seven single-family homes. With two to four bedrooms each, the homes are designated for households earning 30%–60% of area median income.
