From Rent to Roots: Normesha’s Journey to Homeownership

May 6, 2026 | Newsletter

For Normesha, the dream of homeownership has been years in the making, and now it is finally becoming a reality.

A single mother of three, Normesha has worked hard to provide stability for her family while balancing the rising costs of everyday life. Working as a cook at a restaurant in The Villages, she knows firsthand how challenging it can be to keep up with rent, bills, and everything in between.

With rent skyrocketing, Normesha made a decision that would change everything. Two years ago, she set a goal: 2025 would be her last year paying rent.

Today, that goal is within reach.

Through Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter’s Homeownership Program, Normesha is turning that vision into reality. Soon, she and her children will have a place to call their own, a home built not just with walls and a roof, but with determination, perseverance, and hope for the future.

“I can finally say that I went from rent to mortgage,” Normesha shared. “I can finally say that I have something of my own.”

For Normesha and her children, this home represents more than just affordability. It is a foundation for stability, security, and new beginnings. It is a space where memories will be made, milestones will be celebrated, and dreams will continue to grow.

We are honored to partner with Normesha on this journey and cannot wait to see all that lies ahead for her family.
