Wildwood students work with Habitat for Humanity to construct their first home

Students in Sumter County are building their first home.

Students from Wildwood Middle High School are working with Habitat for Humanity to construct a home that will be located on Oxford Road.

This is part of Habitat for Humanity’s Youth Construction Academy, designed to provide on-site, experimental learning opportunities and technical education at the high school level. 

The program kicked off the new class for the school year on Oct. 9. 

Students will build everything that doesn’t require a special license, such as plumbing and electrical. 

“It feels pretty monumental. It feels like I’m part of something that is bigger than me,” Wildwood Middle High School senior Logan Freeman said.
