Neighborhoods

Neighborhoods built by Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter

Our vision is a neighborhood where everyone has a decent place to live. Alongside families, community partners and volunteers, we work to reduce barriers to affordable homeownership in Lake and Sumter Counties.

Sager’s Cove

Applications opening in 2026

We’re excited to announce the development of our latest pocket neighborhood, Sager’s Cove, which will consist of 5 affordable homes in Eustis, Florida. Homes will be built in partnership with our Youth Construction Academy and Eustis High School students. All the homes at Sager’s Cove will be sold to households who qualify for our Homeownership Program and earn 80% or less of the Area Median Income for Lake County.

Our unique Homeownership Program partners with first-time homebuyers who might not otherwise qualify for a traditional mortgage, opening the door to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

For information on how you could qualify for our Homeownership Program, please visit our Homeownership page or contact Veronica@habitatLS.org or 352-483-0434.

The Cottages at Heritage Grove

The final townhomes are currently under construction. The neighborhood will be complete in 2026, closing out Habitat Lake-Sumter’s first age-restricted (55+) community.

The Cottages at Heritage Grove is a 23-unit pocket neighborhood featuring cottage-style homes and townhomes of approximately 730 sq. ft. As Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter’s first age-qualified (55+) community, The Cottages were purposefully designed with a smaller, efficient footprint – preserving Habitat Lake-Sumter’s commitment to safe, high-quality construction while creating an affordable path to homeownership for those on fixed incomes.

By developing this community, Habitat Lake-Sumter is advancing long-term solutions for affordability, sustainability, and aging-in-place. Through our proven model of homeownership, 23 households will gain access to stable, healthy living conditions, and the financial flexibility to secure a home that supports their needs at every stage of life.

Umatilla Veterans Village

Completed in 2019, The Umatilla Veterans Village was the first sustainable pocket neighborhood built by Habitat Lake-Sumter.

Located in the heart of Umatilla, the Veterans Village is a 14-home development created to provide entry-level, affordable homeownership to our service men and women. Planned in the Florida vernacular style, the pocket neighborhood is a front porch community, beautifully situated on Lake Enola with walkable access to downtown and near the local bus line. Each unit is ADA compliant, energy efficient to the highest standards, and sustainable.

During development, The Umatilla Veterans Village was a collaborative project focused on providing access to affordable, quality housing while also offering holistic wraparound services to the residents through a partnership with Combat Veterans to Careers. They offered new homeowners comprehensive support services in career development, mental and physical health, transportation, finances, education, navigating the VA, and legal matters – any needs the veterans may have, as they transition from service to civilian life and well after retirement.

As an extension of our Veterans Housing Initiative, the support services first established during construction of the Umatilla Veterans Village remain central to our work today. Through this initiative, Veterans in Lake and Sumter Counties continue to receive access to affordable homeownership opportunities, critical home repairs and preservation, and personalized wraparound services tailored to each partner family.

According to Veterans Affairs 1.6 million veterans live in Florida – 45,000 reside in Lake and Sumter Counties.

A safe, affordable home provides our veterans with peace of mind. A home is where we feel safe, where we connect with our families, and where we establish ourselves within our community. Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter believes that every veteran deserves a place to call home.
