Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter will open Homeownership Program pre-applications on Friday, May 15, 2026. This is your chance to take the first step toward affordable homeownership and a more stable future for you and your family.
Pre-applications will be available online May 15 through May 29, 2026, giving interested applicants a limited window to apply.
Through the Homeownership Program, Habitat partners with individuals and families in Lake and Sumter Counties by providing safe, well-built homes with affordable mortgage payments. For many families, traditional paths to buying a home are simply out of reach. Habitat helps make that dream possible.
Unlike traditional homebuying, Habitat homeowners partner with us throughout the process. This includes completing “sweat equity” hours by helping build homes, attending financial education classes, and working alongside volunteers and staff. It is a hands-on journey that leads to long-term stability and pride in homeownership.
Beginning May 15, pre-applications will be available online. Applicants should be prepared to provide basic financial information, including income, employment, and credit history as part of the initial process.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Live or work in Lake or Sumter County
- Have a stable, verifiable income
- Demonstrate a need for affordable housing
- Be willing to partner with Habitat throughout the program
- Be able to pay an affordable mortgage
