UMATILLA — More than a dozen veterans groups marched out to help their own celebrate during a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for an affordable housing complex in Umatilla.
Veterans Village, a Habitat for Humanity project, will consist of 14 houses on more than 3 acres off of U.S. Highway 19 that will be home to veterans, spouses of deceased veterans and active military.
Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter officials said that two homes were already on the property when it was purchased. Concrete slabs have been planted for two more and those two houses are expected to be ready by June 2017.
