A Home, A Community, A Future: Thank You to First National Bank of Mount Dora
At Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter, we know it takes a community to build strength, stability, and self-reliance. Thanks to the generosity of First National Bank of Mount Dora (FNBMD), another family will soon have the opportunity to experience the pride and security of homeownership.
As a long-time partner of Habitat Lake-Sumter, First National Bank of Mount Dora continues to show up for our shared community. Since 2019, First National Bank of Mount Dora has joined Habitat Lake-Sumter in our mission to provide safe, affordable housing resources for families across Lake and Sumter counties.
Their support continues this October, as construction will begin on a brand-new Triplex unit in the Cottages at Heritage Grove neighborhood, a vibrant 55+ community featuring 23 affordable housing units. The neighborhood also includes 3 triplex units, the first of their kind from Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter. First National Bank of Mount Dora is sponsoring a unit in our second-ever triplex, providing another family with the chance to achieve their dream of homeownership through Habitat’s Home Ownership Program.
Through the Home Ownership Program, Habitat Lake-Sumter builds and sells affordable homes to individuals and families in Lake and Sumter counties who demonstrate need, meet program guidelines, and can sustain a monthly mortgage. Through the program, Habitat Homeowners complete financial education courses and provide 200 hours of “sweat equity as Habitat Lake-Sumter walks alongside them to prep them for Home Ownership. Habitat Lake-Sumter assists these homeowners and insures that their mortages are affordable for their family.
While the homeowner will be chosen next year, the First National Bank of Mount Dora’s sponsorship starts now. Because of their generosity, not only another family will be accepted into the Home Ownership program find the affordable housing resource they need to thrive. First National Bank of Mount Dora’s support also creates an exciting opportunity for students in the Eustis High School Youth Construction Academy. New classes of students will spend time during the school week working side-by-side with Habitat’s construction staff and professional tradespeople on live construction projects, providing hands-on learning at our dedicated build sites. This practical experience helps students develop valuable skills in construction, problem-solving, and teamwork that they can carry into their future careers.
Construction will be ongoing throughout the school year, from September through May, giving students the chance to see projects develop from foundation to finished home. In May, the students and teachers will take part in a dedication ceremony, where the keys to the home will be handed to a family who has completed Habitat’s Home Ownership program. Ultimately, students graduate from the program career-ready and equipped to assist in providing multiple new homeownership opportunities for local families, creating a lasting impact both in their own lives and in the community.
From all of us at Habitat Lake-Sumter, thank you, First National Bank of Mount Dora, for making a life-changing difference for a family, inspiring students, and helping us continue building homes, communities, and hope. Together, we’re not just constructing houses—we’re building futures.

Driving Community Forward: Vann Gannaway Chevrolet Sponsors Two Habitat Homes
At Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter, we know it takes a whole community to build strength, stability, and hope. Thanks to the generosity of Vann Gannaway Chevrolet, not just one — but two families are on the path to their forever homes.
This fall, a new homeowner will be closing on a Habitat home in the beautiful Cottages at Heritage Grove neighborhood. Around the same time, construction will begin on another Habitat home in the very same community, also made possible by Vann Gannaway Chevrolet’s sponsorship. That’s double the impact, double the joy, and two more families who will experience the security of an affordable mortgage and the pride of homeownership.
Vann Gannaway Chevrolet didn’t just invest in houses — they invested in families, a neighborhood, and the future of our community. For years, they’ve been more than a dealership; they’ve been a trusted neighbor and a true pillar in Lake and Sumter Counties, showing what it means to support families where it matters most.
“We’re excited to highlight our commitment to our community through this partnership,” says Chip Gannaway, President of Vann Gannaway Chevrolet. “Our business is centered around family, and we know how important stable housing is for families in our area. We’re thrilled to have a hand in helping provide that kind of resource for a family in Lake County, and we hope our involvement encourages other individuals and businesses to take action and support housing solutions like this.”
The Cottages at Heritage Grove neighborhood will feature 23 affordable housing units, featuring cozy homes with welcoming front porches overlooking the community green space. The neighborhood also features 3 triplex units, the first of their kind from Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter. None of this would be possible without dedicated partnerships like Vann Gannaway Chevrolet.
From all of us at Habitat Lake-Sumter, thank you, Vann Gannaway Chevrolet, for helping families take these life-changing steps. Together, we’re not just building houses — we’re building hope.
Turn Your Generosity Into Lasting Impact with a Donor Advised Fund
Have you ever wished you could do more with your giving? A Donor Advised Fund (or “DAF”) might be just the thing.
What is a DAF?
A Donor Advised Fund is like a personal giving account. You contribute money to it, get an immediate tax benefit, and then decide over time which charities you want to support. It’s a simple, flexible way to plan your giving and make your generosity go further.
Think of it like a special account set aside just for generosity: you can contribute when it makes sense for you, then recommend grants to your favorite charities—like Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter—whenever you’re ready.
Here’s why people are turning to DAFs:
Flexibility – Give on your timeline. Set money aside now and choose when (and where) it makes the most impact.
Simplicity – One place to organize all your giving, so it’s easier to stay intentional.
Legacy – A way to create a lasting impact that reflects your values and the causes closest to your heart.
At Habitat Lake-Sumter, we see DAFs as a beautiful tool for anyone who wants their giving to grow alongside their vision for the community. Whether you give a little each year or plan for a bigger future gift, your generosity helps families find strength, stability, and shelter.
Have questions about Habitat Lake-Sumter and the impact of your gift? Contact Kim at Kim@habitatls.org or call 352-483-0434 Ext. 141.
Jingle Build-Off 2025: Build a Playhouse, Build a Future!
Jingle Build-Off is Back — and We Want You on the Build Team!
Each December, Habitat Lake-Sumter brings together teams from across our community to dream up, design, and decorate the most magical playhouses you can imagine. These pint-sized playhouses are gifted to local children — sparking joy for families — while raising funds that support Habitat’s mission of building safe, affordable homes. It’s a tradition that brings holiday spirit and real impact, all wrapped up in one, and we’d love for you and your team to join us for this year’s event!
Why Build a Playhouse with Your Team?
Jingle Build-Off is about building connections, showing your creativity, and making a tangible difference. There’s a little something for everyone during Jingle Build-Off, so you can find a way to engage that works best for you and your team!
-
Build a Playhouse: Join us for the “Build-Off” part of Jingle Build-Off, and form a team of Jingle Builders! You will be paired with a family to design and build for. Your team will have the option to build off-site at a location of your choice beginning in October, or on site on December 4th from 7 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as part of our Media Preview Day in Tavares. Then join us for the big reveal during the first weekend of December, where your family will see their playhouse for the first time!
-
Sponsor a Youth Team: Want in on the fun, but aren’t up for construction? Consider sponsoring a Youth Build! Your organization or business will be featured just like a typical team of Jingle Builders, and you’ll be sponsoring a team of middle to high school students to complete the construction and design of the playhouse.
-
Other ways to Get Involved: Can’t swing a build this year? No worries — there are other sponsorships that still let you be part of the fun (and the impact!). You can find our full sponsorship information by clicking here.
Let the Voting Begin!
The excitement continues after the sawdust settles — because the competition heats up when voting runs the second week of December! Each dollar cast is a vote for your favorite playhouse, and every dollar raised goes straight into building affordable housing in Lake and Sumter Counties. Rally your coworkers, friends, and family to help crown your team as the Fan-Favorite Champion!

Home at Last: Meet the Turner Family
By Volunteer Contributor Katrina Machetta
First came the shock. Then came the joy. And finally, the excitement and anticipation of a fresh start.
These were the emotions that swept over Kelly and Troy Turner when they received the life-changing news: they had been selected by Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter for a home through the Homeownership Program.
“I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen. And then when they called, I was kind of in shock—like I couldn’t believe it,” Kelly recalled, describing the unforgettable moment she learned they had been chosen.
For Kelly, Troy, and their five children—Jordan (15), Jonathan (11), Moriah (6), Grace (5), and Luke (2)—the house is nothing short of an answered prayer.
“We had prayed about a house, and I didn’t even want to be too picky. I didn’t care what it looked like. I just really wanted an acre of land and four bedrooms for the kids. That’s it—and that’s exactly what this house is,” Kelly said, still in awe.
The Turners know what it means to outgrow a space. They’ve been renting their current home in Leesburg for nine years, moving in as a family of four but now raising seven under one roof. With three boys at vastly different ages sharing a single room, even simple things—like Jordan’s love for Legos—turned into a challenge when a toddler’s curious hands could reach them all. “Having another bedroom for the boys will be awesome!” Kelly shared.
Outside of home life, the Turners are busy, community-minded people. Troy owns a full-service landscape company that services properties across Lake and Sumter Counties, while Kelly runs a consulting firm in Leesburg. They’ve always loved spending time outdoors with their children—whether it’s rescuing their dog Shelby (found on the side of the road and nursed back to health), dreaming of gardening, or imagining the treehouse they’ll build in the new backyard.
As the house began to take shape, the support from Habitat and the broader community turned construction into a labor of love. Heavily involved in their church, the Turners invited their congregation to lend a hand—and the response was overwhelming.
“We told everybody at our church, ‘We’re going to get together to paint.’ And a whole bunch of people showed up,” Kelly shared. “The ladies on site told us, ‘We’ve never seen this many people come out at once for something like this.’ We had around 22 people show up just to paint with us. That was such a blessing.”
Now, the family is eagerly planning a future filled with cherished memories—from hosting birthday parties in their big yard, to baking cookies in the new kitchen, to letting each child add their personality to the walls with colors and decorations of their own.
“When it’s not your house, you can’t really do what you want—you can’t plant trees or have a big garden, and you have to keep the walls white,” Kelly said. “But with this home, it will be ours. We’ll finally be able to make it our own.”
For the Turner kids, the excitement is already bubbling over: Jordan can’t wait to finally have his own room, Jonathan is already planning for a new dog, Moriah and Grace can’t wait to bake, and little Luke may only say “Yay!”—but everyone knows he’s ready for the bottom bunk.
To the Habitat staff, volunteers, donors, and church family who made this dream possible, the Turners express heartfelt gratitude.
“The work really matters. I’m sure they know that, but every single person we’ve met has been a blessing. They’re kind, caring people who see others as equals—not as someone to help, but as partners. Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s a gift to know people like that.”
This home is more than just a structure—it’s a symbol of faith, resilience, and community love. For the Turner family, it’s the answered prayer that opens a new chapter of stability, joy, and belonging—proving once again that everyone deserves a place to call home.

The Youth Construction Academy is a hands-on program that gives high schoolers real-world experience in the construction trades while helping build homes for local families. Students from The Villages Charter School, Eustis High School, South Lake High School, Wildwood Middle High School, and Leesburg High School will all be part of this year’s builds.
New classes of students will spend time during the school week working side by side with Habitat’s construction staff and professional tradesmen on live construction projects, providing hands-on learning at our dedicated build sites.
Construction will run from September through May, and in the spring, students and teachers will take part in a heartfelt dedication ceremony—handing over the keys to a local family who has completed Habitat’s Home Ownership program. By the end of the school year, students will graduate OSHA certified and career-ready, and will have helped provide new homeownership opportunities in our community.
We’re proud to celebrate and continue meaningful partnerships with our sponsors: RoMac Building Supply will once again support Leesburg High School, while Eustis High School’s home build is made possible thanks to First National Bank of Mount Dora and Vann Gannaway Chevrolet, as the students will be building a triplex at The Cottages at Heritage Grove. In Bushnell, RoMac Distribution and Citizens First Bank will partner with The Villages Charter School to complete two additional homes. Wildwood Middle High School students will be completing construction on a house in Oxford, and South Lake High School will be building a home in Groveland.

Join us! Groundbreaking Celebration with Citizens First Bank and the Villages Charter School
We’re breaking ground once again with Citizens First Bank to sponsor the construction of a new home in Bushnell— built alongside the incredible students from The Villages Charter School and Habitat Lake Sumter’s Youth Construction Academy – and you’re invited!
On August 12th at 1:00 P.M., we will continue our partnership with Citizens First Bank by breaking ground on a brand new affordable home in Bushnell, Florida. The home will be constructed through Habitat Lake Sumter’s Youth Construction Academy by Construction Program students from the Villages Charter School.
Join us as we kick off construction and celebrate breaking ground on another affordable home, and another exciting year with our Youth Construction Academy students.
This build will kick off The Villages Charter School’s eighth year participating with the Youth Construction Academy—and Citizens First Bank is helping make it happen once again as the lead house sponsor.
We’re proud to continue this meaningful partnership with Citizens First Bank, a long-time supporter of Habitat Lake-Sumter and a true champion for our community. With their support, we’re providing affordable housing for a local family and giving students hands-on experience in the building trades.
The Youth Construction Academy gives students from The Villages Charter High School a chance to trade textbooks for tool belts—literally! They step onto the build site and learn hands-on skills like framing, siding, and teamwork, all while working side-by-side with Habitat’s pros. It’s more than just a class—it’s a chance for students to gain confidence, explore careers in the trades, and build something real that gives back to their community.
Most recently, Chandra Batson’s home was dedicated with the help of Citizens First Bank and The Villages Charter School students, who worked side by side with Habitat staff to bring the home to life. It was a moment filled with pride, gratitude, and the promise of a fresh start.
This home will be more than just walls and a roof—it will be a launching pad for one family’s future and a learning lab for the next generation of builders.
We’re so grateful to Citizens First Bank for continuing to help us build homes, communities, and hope! We hope you’ll join us for the Groundbreaking Celebration!

Building Forever: A Journey to Homeownership
Written By: Katrina Machetta
What does it mean to be a first-time homeowner? For Melanie Marquez, it means building something lasting—“something forever”—for generations to come.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Melanie first learned about Habitat through a family member who lost their home in Hurricane Maria back in 2017. That experience stuck with her. Years later, now living in Mount Dora and working hard as a medical assistant, she started looking for her own way to build something stable—and remembered Habitat.
Though the process was both exciting and intimidating, Melanie describes it as a journey marked by constant support and reassurance. “It was scary and happy not knowing what to expect or do,” she said, “but I always had my questions answered. I never felt alone or unheard.”
The Home Ownership Program at Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter is one of the organization’s cornerstone initiatives, focused on building affordable homes while providing tailored support to help new homeowners navigate their responsibilities and embrace their new roles.
Melanie applied not once, but three times before being selected. It wasn’t easy, but she never gave up. That determination and drive are just part of who she is. And when she finally got the call, she knew it was the beginning of something big.
Through this program, Melanie was finally given the opportunity to create a place she could truly call her own—a forever home.
“We can make it ours,” she shared. “When you rent a house, you can’t paint it the way you want. You can’t make it cozy because there are rules to follow. But having your own home means you can go home, make it cozy, and be together as a family. We can create good memories here.”
Right now, Melanie rents in Mount Dora—but soon, she’ll be turning the key to a home that’s completely hers. She’s excited, she’s grateful, and above all, she feels blessed to be creating a space that her family can grow into.
Melanie is quick to acknowledge that this home wasn’t simply given—it was earned. The journey was filled with hard work, dedication, and collaboration. After finally being accepted, she is deeply grateful for the chance to build a better future.
“I want to thank Habitat for all the help and support since day one,” she said. “Thank you for everything. And thank you to the students for all their hard work in building our forever home.”
For Melanie, this isn’t just a house—it’s a fresh start, a dream come true, and a chance to plant roots for the future.
Watch a special moment from this past Christmas, when Melanie surprised her children with the news that she was building their future home.
We Went to Guatemala!
Lacie Himes, Development Director at Habitat Lake-Sumter, shares some of the moments that stood out most during the trip:
“We partnered with Habitat Guatemala to provide healthy housing solutions for families in Chimaltenango. Each morning, we met with the community advocate and the families that we would be working alongside. After introductions, we gathered up materials and safety gear for the day and walked to the homes we would be working at. Healthy housing solutions in Guatemala include concrete floors, smokeless stoves, water filtration systems, and latrines. We hand-mixed the concrete and worked with a local mason to pour the concrete floors, build the stoves, and construct the latrines. My favorite part was working on the concrete projects, meeting the Habitat Guatemala team, and working alongside the families. In many ways, Habitat Guatemala is very similar to Habitat Lake-Sumter. They build new homes and also provide healthy housing kits to families who may not be eligible for new construction—just like our Homeownership and Preservation & Repair programs. At the end of our trip, we were invited to lunch with the neighborhood. The families welcomed us in with firecrackers, balloons, and a delicious homemade meal. We heard from one of the homeowners, Cindy, who shared her heartfelt gratitude for the difference her new concrete kitchen floor will make for her family. While the solutions may look different, the mission of providing more stable, decent, and healthy housing for all remains the same.”
And one moment really stuck with her:
“We visited the site of a future Habitat neighborhood that’s being built in Guatemala—with support from local partners and Habitat affiliates across Florida. We learned that nearly half of the country (47%) is without electricity, but the homes Habitat Guatemala is building will include access to electricity, filtered water, and many other essentials. I hope to return and volunteer on that construction site in the near future.”
Thinking about joining a Global Village Trip? Lacie offers this advice:
“If you’re considering a volunteer trip, I highly recommend going with Habitat for Humanity. Because you’re working with a local nonprofit—Habitat Guatemala in this case—you’re not just lending a hand, you’re supporting local efforts that truly make a difference. The projects are led by the local team, so you know the work is impactful and the housing solutions are tailored to each family’s needs. Whether you love to travel or it’s your first time abroad, the most important thing is to stay open. Be ready to learn, to experience something new, to embrace the culture, and to connect—with the families, your fellow volunteers, and the team leaders. You’ll learn more than you ever expected… and be ready to work hard!”

Sponsor Spotlight: Agewave Architects & Engineers
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again—we couldn’t do this without our people. And AgeWave Solutions, Inc.? They’re definitely our people.
For the fourth year, AgeWave is proudly supporting Women Build, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their ongoing partnership and generosity. But they’re not just sponsoring—they’re designing, building, and showing up.
“This year, because of AgeWave’s commitment, we can serve three local families and help them achieve their dream of homeownership,” says Danielle Stroud, CEO of Habitat Lake-Sumter. “The opportunity to own an affordable home not only eliminates cost burdens for families, it provides them with a springboard to thrive. Thanks to AgeWave’s support, we can offer that opportunity to families who need it most.”
The 2025 Women Build home isn’t just any home—it’s our first-ever triplex, and it was designed by AgeWave’s own architects and engineers. And in May, the AgeWave team joined us on-site to raise the first walls of that very triplex—turning their designs into reality with hammers in hand.
“Through Women Build, we are not just designing and building homes—we are creating opportunities for families to achieve stability and a brighter future,” says Randy M. Thompson, COO of AgeWave Solutions. “It is incredibly rewarding to see the impact that safe and affordable housing has on individuals and the community.”
Over the years, AgeWave has supported countless builds, but their dedication to Women Build continues to stand out. With every blueprint, every wall raised, and every act of generosity, they’re helping us build more than homes—they’re building hope.
We’re proud to kick off this next chapter of Women Build with AgeWave by our side.

Women Build 2025 Recap
We’re just a few months into Women Build 2025, and the momentum is already incredible. From raising the first walls of our future triplex to the generosity flowing in from across Lake and Sumter Counties, this year’s campaign is shaping up to be one of our most impactful yet.
So far, over $63,000 has been raised by a passionate group of women leaders—and the numbers keep growing!
Let’s take a look back at some of the unforgettable moments we’ve shared so far:
Women Build Kick-Off Party
We had the best time meeting so many of our (mostly new!) Women Builders at this year’s Women Build Kickoff event! From delicious hors d’oeuvres and drinks to keepsake Polaroids and meaningful conversations—it was a beautiful night to launch this season of building together.
We were especially inspired by the Foster family, Habitat homeowners who reminded us exactly why we do this work. Their story was the perfect spark to get us ready to raise walls and raise funds this year.
Huge thanks to Agewave Solutions for showing up and sharing why Women Build matters to them—it’s always incredible to hear how this movement is impacting our partners and community.
Sip & Stroll at the Leesburg ReStore
A few of our Women Builders and Habitat homeowners joined us for a relaxed evening exploring the treasures of the ReStore—with a glass of wine in hand, of course! It was a fun and meaningful way to connect, share stories, and celebrate the mission behind Women Build.
Pre-Build Wall Raising Celebration
We had an incredible morning out on the build site raising the first walls of the Women Build triplex! It was a big moment—not just for construction, but for the community of women (and a few great guys!) who are making this triplex possible.
We got to celebrate our top fundraisers and officially welcome a few new members into the Sisterhood of the Pink Hard Hats—a group of women who raised $1,500 or more for Women Build. Special inductees into this years Sisterhood of the Pink Hard Hats included Verna Fitzsimmons, Hannah Zeller, and Ale’jah Poole. That pink hard hat represents more than fundraising… it’s about showing up, digging in, and being part of something bigger than yourself.
This years top fundraisers were 1st Place -Denise Hatton, 2nd Place – Kristin Sullivan, and 3rd Place was Suzan Tanner Woodward. Thank you to everyone who came out, cheered us on, swung a hammer, or made this milestone happen.
HUGE thank you to Agewave Solutions!
Women Build wouldn’t be what it is without partners like Agewave Solutions. Their support—financially, emotionally, and physically—has helped bring this mission to life in such a meaningful way.
It’s rare and special to see a partner so fully committed, not just to the project, but to the people behind it. Watching Agewave’s design come to life—through their own hands on the build site—was a powerful reminder of how much impact community collaboration can have.
Cheers to Fifth Third Bank!
The Women Build Wall Raising was a joyful and unforgettable celebration—and we have Fifth Third Bank to thank for making it truly special. From the brunch spread to the mimosas, and yes—even the pom poms!—Fifth Third helped us create a moment that felt both fun and meaningful.
Volunteers on our Women Build site!
So far we have hosted First National Bank of Mount Dora! They did such a wonderful job helping staff member Kory with framing!

We’ve had a blast connecting with you, sharing stories, and fundraising for a cause that changes lives. And the best part? We’re just getting started.

From Lake-Sumter to the World: Build with Us Abroad
If you’ve volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter, you know the powerful impact we make right here in our community. Now, we’re making that impact global!
This June, a group of 12 volunteers from Habitat Lake-Sumter will travel to Chimaltenango, Guatemala, to partner with a local family and help build a safe, stable home. By day, we’ll roll up our sleeves on the construction site; by night, we’ll immerse ourselves in the rich culture of Guatemala—enjoying traditional meals and meaningful connection.
We still have 4 spots available for this life-changing experience, happening June 15-21, and we’d love for you to join us! The trip cost is $1,768 + airfare (estimated at $500).
Worried about cost? Many of our volunteers fundraise their way to Global Village trips—we can help you get started!
The payment deadline is May 1st.
Ready to build with us abroad or want to learn more about future Global Village trips? Contact Danielle Stroud, our affiliate CEO and your trip leader, at danielle@habitatls.org or 352-630-3318.
Meet Josh: A Habitat employee to future Habitat homeowner
Joshua Fulwider was a senior in the Youth Construction Academy with The Villages High School during the 2020–2021 school year. If you ask him about that time, he’ll tell you he loved every bit of it.
Unfortunately, later that same year, Josh suffered a very serious spinal cord injury. He had a compression fracture in his vertebrae—so severe that if it had been any lower or higher, he would’ve been left paralyzed. This injury impacted many areas of Josh’s life, and he started to lose hope that he would be able to pursue his passion for construction in the future.
Josh, however, was determined to get back on his feet and back out on site. Just 11 months later, he was ready to pick up his tools and get to work.
While exploring his options for post-graduation employment, Josh reached back out to the place that fostered his love of construction – Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter. He applied right after high school but was not initially selected for the job.
Then, in March of 2023, Danielle Stroud, CEO of Habitat Lake-Sumter, gave him a phone call—and by May, Josh officially started as a Crew Leader.
Now, Josh is not only a former YCA student and a Crew Leader—soon, he’ll be a Habitat homeowner. His closing is set for May 2025 on a home that Habitat has been rehabilitating since early October 2024. He’s even helped work on the house himself—painting, cleaning up trim, installing backsplash, and more.
Josh is most excited to have a new home to start a family, and a place to come back to after a long day’s work. He, his girlfriend, their ball python, and their 20-gallon fish tank will all be moving in together!
Josh says he feels excited and blessed—that his story shows just how strong the power of God is. Before joining Habitat Lake-Sumter, he was constantly stressed. Now, he says he doesn’t see his job as a job. He sees it as a blessing. And getting a home in today’s market, at just 21 years old? He explains that he’s grateful, and considered himself lucky to have this opportunity.
Just like every other family that walks alongside Habitat Lake-Sumter on their road to homeownership, Josh had to meet all the qualifications for the Home Ownership program, including extensive financial education, and fulfilling 200 hours of sweat equity.
Josh went from never imagining himself in construction again to coming full circle—as a Habitat professional and soon-to-be Habitat homeowner.
“Habitat has humbled me,” he says. He loves attending dedications and seeing firsthand how life-changing owning a Habitat home can be.
Josh wants people to know not to give up. “As big as your problems may feel, there’s always a solution. And in the end—it’s all worth it. You’ll come out stronger than before.”
