National Women Build Week 2018

When: May 8th -12th

Where: Various Locations (Umatilla, Mount Dora, Leesburg, &/or Oxford)

A major part of Habitat for Humanity International’s “Women Build” program is the National Women Build Week. Given how awesome our community is, we were among the 300 affiliates across 49 states selected to participate in this year’s event! Through a long-standing partnership with Lowe’s, this event strives to underscore the home ownership challenges faced by women by engaging women in the solution. The program invites women to devote at least one day to help families build strength, stability and independence through the construction of new homes.

National Women Build Week is held annually on the week leading up to Mother’s Day. Lowe’s generously donates nearly $2 million dollars as well as volunteer support. In addition, local Lowe’s stores will be offering “how-to” clinics to help prepare volunteers for the build site. Hosting the event during this week reinforces the message that every woman can make a difference through learning and using construction skills. More than 90,000 women from all 50 states have volunteered at the nine previous National Women Build Week events, and we aim to break 100,000 in 2018!

Stay tuned as we update this page with information about our clinics at local Lowe’s stores during the month of April!

We’re also adding a competitive edge to this year’s event. Participants will have fundraising goals to meet, and prizes will be awarded to those that raise the most. If you don’t meet the minimum requested amount, that’s okay! Your hammer will swing just as hard and we still welcome you to the job site.
