For over 35 years, President and Rosalynn Carter worked alongside over 108,100 volunteers who built, renovated, and repaired more than 4,447 homes in 14 countries as part of the Carter Work Project.
Now, Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter hopes to carry on the Carters’ legacy of service with our first Carter Work Project, which will begin in Fall 2025.
Through the Carter Work Project, President and Rosalynn Carter demonstrated their strong commitment to the idea that everyone deserves a decent place to live. Their partnership with Habitat for Humanity allowed the Carters to see the impacts that safe, stable housing has on a family’s future. The Carter Work Project has since become a way in which the Carters have ensured that their legacy will continue to provide families with a safe place to call home.
Habitat Lake-Sumter is honored to announce that we will be completing our own Carter Work Project in 2025. As part of the Carter Work Project: Rural Rally, Habitat Lake-Sumter is constructing a triplex home in our Cottages at Heritage Grove neighborhood. We’re excited to be able to continue to uphold the spirit of service and giving that the Carters exhibited as humanitarians and advocates for affordable housing.
From October 26th to October 31st, 2025, Habitat Lake-Sumter will be hosting special volunteer opportunities on our Carter Work Project. For more information, please contact Carlos at carlos@habitatls.org or call us at (352) 483-0434.
Give today to help support our Carter Work Project. Your generosity honors the Carters’ legacy. It helps us carry on the life-changing work that President and Rosalynn Carter dedicated their time to, and allows Habitat Lake-Sumter to provide a family in Lake County with stable housing and the foundation they need to thrive.

Throughout February 2025, there will be a public Memorial Wall in honor of President Carter installed at our Eustis ReStore. This memorial wall is part of a nationwide effort by Habitat for Humanity to recognize President Carter’s lifetime of service.
Following the month-long installation at the Eustis ReStore, the wall from the memorial will be used at a new home construction site, as part of our Carter Work Project in Tavares, FL.
We invite you to visit the Memorial Wall throughout the month of February. Markers are available inside the Eustis ReStore, and can be used to sign the wall to share thoughts and memories about President Carter, draw a picture, or simply sign your name. Help us honor President Carter’s spirit of community by sharing how his work inspires you to get involved in your own community.
